In September this year, Dominic Smith (UK Head of Research at CBRE Investments) published a paper called UK Real Estate in 2040: The Rise of Beds and Technology. The paper presents a long-range view of the UK’s investable real-estate universe, projecting changes to 2040 based on structural drivers rather than short-term cycles. The author argues that over the span of roughly one full investment cycle, the composition of the market will diverge meaningfully from today’s mix, as sectors powered by different growth engines rise or fall in significance.
