Leipzig, with its 590,000 inhabitants, has appeared more and more often on institutional investors’ target lists: at first as a “hidden champion”, but more recently as a fully developed and internationally recognized investment location. In addition, the city is one of the top addresses for life sciences in Germany. With its diverse cluster of bioeconomy, life sciences, healthcare, biotechnology, medical technology, pharmaceutical industry, bioinformatics as well as pharmaceutical and medical logistics, Leipzig covers an almost comprehensive spectrum of the industry and its sub-areas.
In total, more than 47,000 employees can be counted in all related areas. Leipzig occupies a leading position internationally, particularly in the field of innovative cell and gene therapy. Two of the currently eight EU-
wide approved advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) are produced in Leipzig.
