Germany - Munich

Munich metro area has a population of 1.5 million, making it the third most populous city in Germany after Berlin and Hamburg. The city is the capital of Bavaria, which has a population of 13 million, making it the second most populous federal state in Germany after North-Rhine Westphalia. Bavaria’s GDP is broadly comparable to that of Sweden.

Munich is one of the leading locations for the biotechnology and pharmaceuticals industry in Germany. 15 per cent of German biotechnology companies have their headquarters here, and around 30 per cent of national biotechnological drug development take place in the Munich area, all of these located outside the city centre.
