In September 2026, Mitsui Fudosan started work on the £1.1 billion extension to the British Library at St Pancras, with Stanhope as development manager.

The scheme comprises a 100,000 sq ft library extension and over 600,000 sq ft of commercial space aimed at the life sciences sector, including lab-enabled offices, on a site north of the library next to the Francis Crick Institute.

The British Library will grant a long lease of the land to SMBL, a Mitsui Fudosan subsidiary.

Mace is construction manager, and completion is targeted for 2032.

It is Mitsui Fudosan's first life sciences development in Europe.
