Spire Healthcare Group has recommended a c.£1 billion takeover by a consortium indirectly owned by Toscafund Asset Management, Three Hills and Ares Management, acquiring the business through the newly formed Tulip UK Bidco vehicle.

Candesic provided commercial due diligence to the consortium, with the deal following a strategic review launched by Spire last September that included discussions with several interested parties.

Spire is the UK's largest independent hospital operator by revenue, operating 38 hospitals across England, Scotland and Wales.

🇪🇸 Grifols breaks ground on plasma fractionation plant near Barcelona

Grifols held the groundbreaking for a new plasma fractionation plant at Lliçà de Vall (Barcelona), attended by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and industry and tourism minister Jordi Hereu in June 2026.

The initial phase is a €160 million investment, with operations starting in 2030 and adding 3 million litres/year of fractionation capacity for the more than 300,000 European patients who depend on plasma-derived therapies.

The site will integrate with Grifols' existing complex at neighbouring Parets del Vallès to form a single 25-hectare biotechnology campus housing 3,700+ employees, 400 of them new.

The facility — fractionation plant plus QC labs, warehouses and logistics areas, designed and built in-house by Grifols Engineering — is designated a strategic project by the Generalitat and conceived as a smart factory running on 100 per cent renewable electricity.
