27 deals to go: inside our life sciences real estate database
In July we published our 100th newsletter. Now another milestone is in sight.
Our database of life sciences real estate transactions now holds 1,973 deals across 28 countries, 27 short of 2,000, a mark we expect to reach in October. The database is updated internally every week, and the client-facing version is refreshed quarterly.
As we enter Q4, we wanted to share a sense of what it contains, looking at our six largest markets, which together account for 87% of all deals we track.
🇬🇧 UK
36% of deals tracked. The Golden Triangle of London, Oxford and Cambridge makes up about 40% of UK deals. Manchester and Liverpool take the next two spots, a pairing familiar to football fans.
🇩🇪 GERMANY
20% of deals tracked, across 112 cities, the widest geographic spread of any market we cover. Berlin and Munich lead, but third and fourth place are less obvious.
🇫🇷 FRANCE
9% of deals tracked. Point of care accounts for over half of them, and the market is concentrated: a handful of investors and operators drive most of the activity. We're keeping their names under wraps for now.
🇮🇪 IRELAND
9% of deals tracked, 39% of them production facilities, by far the highest share of any market we cover. Occupiers include Astellas, Dexcom, Eli Lilly and Takeda.
🇳🇱 NETHERLANDS
7% of deals tracked. Amsterdam, Delft, Leiden and Utrecht account for more than half, and Kadans Science Partner is among the most active names.
🇪🇸 SPAIN
6% of deals tracked. Madrid and Barcelona feature most, home to players such as Stoneshield, recently backed by Franklin Templeton, but San Sebastián and Zaragoza also appear regularly.
