Scarborough Group International buys Old Medical School in Leeds
Scarborough Group International has completed the freehold acquisition of the Grade II* listed Old Medical School at Leeds General Infirmary from Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, paving the way for its transformation into a healthtech innovation hub.
The 75,000 sq ft building, completed in 1894 and among England’s earliest provincial medical schools, will be repurposed to provide co‑working space, offices, laboratories and event facilities as part of the first phase of the Leeds Innovation Village.
Scarborough Group was first announced as preferred developer in May 2024, before concluding the acquisition in 2026.
In England, most listed buildings are Grade II (over 90 per cent of the total), with around 5–6 per cent at Grade II* and only 2–3 per cent at Grade I.
Base Investments gets green light at Leiden Bio Science Park
Base Investments has obtained an irrevocable environmental permit for Bluezone Labs, a 10,000 sq m laboratory and office building to be developed at Leiden Bio Science Park through its Physicus development platform.
The project forms the first phase of the broader Bluezone Campus. Base spent two years consulting tenants in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium to establish the brief for the building.
Construction is due to start at the end of 2026 and to complete at the end of 2028.
Advisers include EYE Real Estate, Paul de Ruiter Architects, B+B Landscape Architects, DGMR, IMd, Linssen, BBN and BRO.
